The Hypocritical Advisor/ "Nice" teacher

Some teachers just love to give others advice, let alone students important and so-called meaningful advice. This sort of teacher is the type who makes the most of assemblies to talk. Fair enough, talking. However, some make it "all about themselves". I had a particular teacher who is exactly just that.

She treats us all as though we are kids who are not capable of thinking for ourselves. It is true that some high schoolers still have the mentality of a 10-year-old, but most don't. Most of us had enough of her "lectures", telling us what we should do, rather than showing us what we should do by setting a good example.

The teacher is annoying as a ant bite - it does not sting but is absolutely irksome. The more immature, non-thinking people tend to like her because she "helps" them think, and yes she is helpful in that aspect. But the more mature and, perhaps even, the mentally and emotionally independent students, she sees as a threat. She seeks nothing more than controlling the actions (think back to the story of the wrecked, physically battered Bible) of students who could potentially go against her and taint her image as the dominant, powerful woman. (She is also an extreme feminist who thinks that only women, successful in the eyes of the world have got it all. To her, other people are rubbish.)

A touching, moving tribute to us from her is her narrow-minded, condescending words of "wisdom" which reveal her hypocritical, materialistic character which she tries to hide. She writes in the foreword of the Valete 2011 after rambling on about the trustworthiness of the lessons the school has taught, "There may be times when you want to start a family but worry about the implications of your career." If no career, so what? It is up to the individual.

Instead of reprimanding people and making others worship her, perhaps she should set a good example by being a just and fair teacher.

Let's be honest, we all tend to criticise the mistakes of others, but how often do we criticise ourselves? This is the sinful part of human nature which we all have. None of us are perfect, and so none of us can say so. However, some people act as though they are. These people think they are superior to others and are blind to their own mistakes. They are full of double standards and only treat those who seek their approval as their equals.

Teachers can be defined as anyone who gives another advice, regardless of what the advice is. It does not simply refer to a school teacher. When you give a friend advice, you become a teacher. When your parents give you advice, they are your teachers. Some teachers preach, some lecture, some criticise, some lead by example, some protest, some share their ideas with others but all are teachers.

Having graduated from high school, I know what some teachers are like. Some try to make students respect them because they only want to show their authority and power. I volunteered to to do a Bible reading once and my Bible was battered and broken. The Head of Senior School saw me, looked down at the Bible from her colossal height and said dryly 'That's very disrespectful. You need to swap that.' I just did because I could not argue with her in high school. Upon reflection, I released I could argue with her, but I didn't because I had to show her some respect as a student. A broken bible, so what? It's the content that counts, not the outside. Clearly, she judges a book by its cover, literally. She is a very materialistic person who does not deserve to be a teacher of high position, let alone a teacher of high position in a school that is supposed to teach values of love - not to be judgemental, materialistic and proud.
